Stuff of all kinds

Moving the site from WordPress.com to my own had me very excited for a few days there. Maybe it’s a man-thing or a techie-thing, but I was as worked up as a lorry-load of leprechauns at a mini-skirt convention.

Okay, there were so many things that should have worked but didn’t. In the corporate world these are called challenges. I call them problems caused by fekers-who-don’t-publish-proper-help-files-and-have-out-of-date-info-on-their-website.

I drew on all my training in software engineering processes and planned everything meticulously. Then I seen the virtual mini-skirts and all that went out the window. I went at like a pig at a potato. Big mistake. You’re supposed to learn by them aren’t you? Well, then that makes me a fekin genius.

A big thanks to Eolaí for slicing the spud with some very useful advice and suggestions. And good luck to Bock with the move to his own site. I’m looking forward to seeing the new gaff.

Some new toys on the site:

There is a new poll opened. It runs inline this time so you won’t be redirected to PollDadday.com. One of the great things about being able to use Javascript and Flash.
Mo Rogha has been updated to a pretty nifty table. You can now sort it by clicking on the headers. This may be overkill right now, it might be useful when the list grows.

So I have all the gizmos, gadgets and go-faster-stripes I could ever want. Now all I need is to be able to write something readable. There’s always a snag isn’t there?

Primal, you may need to do something with your dates in your Rogha table because it sorts them on days before months. Maybe the script is intended for use with the American format of date?

I’m not really thinking about this becasue the kettle is on the boil and I need to dash to it, so foprgive me if I’m talking nonsense, but you could just reverse the date format order and stick the four-digit year first, etc. ?

Eolaí - Thanks. I hadn’t noticed. The script doesn’t allow for cell formatting so I just changed the dates to yyyy/mm/dd and put the kettle on again.

The site looks great, Sneezy. I’ve been off nursing the sick-as-parrots brood, so I don’t think I’ve told you that yet. Nor thanked you for the help with my own. I haven’t one what you suggested yet, on account of the pestilence but with luck, after Tuesday this week (girls’ birthday), I’ll have it sorted. You’re a star, so you are. So you really, truly are.

Sadly I am a girl and have no interest in techie things but am trying to do the same re my own domain and wordpress- any suggestions pleaseeeeeeeeeeee

Flirty, maybe to make things simpler you might leave your wordpress theme at the default one for the import of all your posts and comments from blogspot - and then once you’re happy with that, go about picking something suitably flirty to apply to your new home?

Primal - is that an over the top suggestion? - and thanks for he nod (see how Americanized I’ve become; thanking for thanking) I actually had only read the bottom section of your post originally, such is the nature of scan-reading.

Sam - Geeze, that dose is hanging on isn’t it. They kids have had it for ages now. Family heirloom status by now I reckon.

Flirty - Eolaí has hit the skinny metal thing on the end that isn’t sharp. So you want to move to your own domain? Not just to WordPress.com? (Kav, posted some good advice for Bock about moving to WordPress.com. I know he told you about it - I am pointing it out again for others).

Tell ya what I’ll do. I’ll write today’s post about my move to a hosted site on Hosting365.

Eolaí - At least you got to read the bottom bit - It wasn’t truncated. Ooops, a feed - that’s another thing I’ll have to sort out.
