Snippets #9

  • My Frequently Answered Questions (FAQ) has finally been updated to include the actual questions I get asked. Grandad, Sam and Eolaí’s suggestions make much better reading, so if you haven’t seen them go have a look now.
  • I have been thinking about Twitter. And I thought, why bother? I could develop my own here’s the latest news application. It’s extremely high tech altogether. You can see version 1.0 of SplutterTM on the left of screen.
  • It’s raining. No, really. I’m not messing. Met Éireann forecast we would get 5cm over a 36hr period. I didn’t believe them until the water began rising over the door of my storage container. So I have been outside digging gulleys and building baby bulwarks to divert the flood. It’s not working and I’m soaked.
  • Speaking of soakings, you may like to read Seanachie’s post on how the French are falling out of love with the bidet. This had me in bits laughing. He even quotes an Italian hygiene historian. I didn’t know such a thing existed.
  • Kathy is threatening to interfere with my blogging (and work - but who cares about that) this week. Her second baby is due on Wednesday and I’ve been volunteered to take Seán when the time comes. What’s the best thing to write on a happy-new-baby card ? Well done! I knew you had it in you didn’t go down well the last time.

  1. I used to make my own cards and use the Chinese year of the relevant birth to stop me having to think of something new to depict or say.

The practice was stopped however when my sister gave birth in the year of the rat.

    You’re on your own.

  2. Ah, the bauld Eolaí! So there ya are now. A busy man of late, I read.

Yep. Year of the Rat could pose a problem. I think I’ll drop the card thing altogether. I’ll scribble something on Seán’s forehead when I’m handing him back. Three advantages: I won’t have to buy a card; Seán’ll think it’s hilarious; the message will have to be short.

  3. So much rain, really? It’s 29 degrees here at the moment - blue skies and warm summer air. On the downside we don’t have a bank holiday so I can only look at the great weather through a window.

  4. Think you should post some card suggestions and get votes?

  5. Conorín - I was grounded for the bank holiday myself because of the imminent arrival so I worked through it. And looked out the window at the rain wishing it was a pub window and I was at a counter not my desk.

Flirty - The whole idea was that you folks would do the thinking for me. Not going to happen is it?
