Snippets #18

By Primal Sneeze ~ May 10th, 2008. Filed under: Snippets, Uncategorized.

- The Kildare Chilling Co. facility was destroyed in a fire on Saturday afternoon. Both Breaking News.ieIndependent.ie say the fire broke out at the Chillen factory on the old Dublin road at around 4 o’ clock. I can only assume the report was phoned in by a true local. Anyway, it’s a sad loss – The Chillin’and was a major employer in Kildare Town.

- Breaking News.ie are also reporting that a man landed his helicopter on the roof of a car park in Athlone as he wanted to have keys cut at a nearby shopping centre. Smart comments please.

- Oh! Before I forget: Eolaí’s sale of paintings ends in one or two days. When I say one or two it’s because one day + time difference between here and Kansas = almost two days in Kansas time. I think. My head hurts. Ah, look, just go on over there and pick up the last of the bargains.

- Remember I told you about the trouble I was having convincing An Post that I don’t have a TV?*Beschreibung: alter Fernseher

This was it:

And how they should stop wasting everybody’s time sending me reminders to buy a TV licence? Well wonder of wonders they do believe me. They wrote to say they did. However, their computer system doesn’t so I am to get reminders indefinitely. But the human says I can just ignore them.

- MacDara is blogging as often as he can on the unfolding situation in Beruit. I’m relying on MacD for news of what could become a civil war in one of the world’s most beautiful countries. Independent.ie seem more interested in reporting soccer results.

Hello Primal from what may become two countries. I am currently in Halat a Christian town just north of Beirut. Staying with Friends a refugee again. House is in West Beirut which is now controlled by Hezballah. Not sure when it is going to be open for access. I know that there are lots of Lebanese still living in The area but personnally Im not estatic about trying to pass through Hezb checkpoints.

Hang in, Mac. Sounds like you might be heading back west soon … for a while anyway.

There’s been so little coverage of Beiruit these last few days. I’m expecting the world to get bored with Burma next week and pick some other story, maybe Beirut.

And thanks on the paintings sale end. Yes I had no idea myself when exactly I was ending it so late last night I just picked a time.

Methinks folk lose interest in events in places that aren’t holiday destinations, Eolaí. Burma is holding attention because of the “aid can’t get in” angle.

Good luck with the final hours of the sale. I noticed our countdowns weren’t in synch in the mornings so I figured yours was running on central time.

Where I work I occasionally have dealings with Kildare Chilling, and I’ve never heard it pronounced other than Chillin’. Always brightens my day.

I love this. Makes it sound like there’s just one guy in the whole department, surrounded by banks and banks of computers. Official job title: The Human.

    E. M. Esq. ~ The Chillin’ is still open for boning lambs. Whether that sounds rude or not, it’s a little good news.

On An Post: I must check that letter again in case it is signed The Human.
